I hit one of my lakes here in the Everglades where I experienced terrific fishing for bass in the past. That was 1.5 years ago in June of '08. Things have changed. The water level is much higher. The road I used in the past to drive to the lake is flooded and there are schools of fry swimming there. I'd say the level is 3' higher. What this has done is give tons of cover for the panfishes (sunfishes and Mayan Cichilds). The water is incredibly clear and I've found artificials don't work. 20' visibility. In the past the panfishes were at the edge as its a quarry lake. Now there isn't an edge and no panfish. Bass are everywhere around the edge just waiting for a panfish to make a mistake. I have lost track of all the bass. Fish from a foot to 10 plus pounds. The attached pic is a male on a bed and the female that's nearby. The male is 2 pounds easy and the female is only 2 feet away. I've caught fish to 9.5#s in the lake and heard of 13 pounders caught here. She's big and I saw at least 20 as big. Tomorrow I'm hitting it with live shiners.
