I use to just get a metal tube from HOme Depot, put a point on it and drill a hole for a cord. They work great and cost a bit over a buck a piece.

These were like 6 bucks so no wallet breaker and I like the feel of them. Going to play with them before florida, but may just go to the ace in EC and see what I can adapt. Scott

Try to get a metal tube that the rod will fit in snugly cut the rod in two cut a piece of tube 6 to 8 inches long put one rod in the tube half way drill a small hole and put a small screw in it stick the other pole in and drill a hole all the way thrue to place a snap pine in there so you can now take it a part click here to see a snap pin www.montanajacks.com/images/products/fas-0932-516_th.jpg

I use a 6' piece of 3/4" PVC with a "T" on one end and a 45 degree cut on the other. It works fine for me in the Florida sand and muck. And yes, it holds.

I just buy the painters aluminum extension poles. They extend from 4-8 ft.
You can buy for about $6-$8
They have a hole at the top to attach a rope.

I have been using the yakstick, its heavy un-like Capts Dicks pole and Hobies Pole

I also like that you can drag it on the bottom and use it as a anchor

I use a 5'section of PVC pipe about 2" in diamemter. Cut one end diagonally; drill hole for tether at other end.
It also fits into scupper holes for temporary stop in calm waters.

I'm out of town and snowed in deep!!
I may have over-estimated the diameter of my stake out pole since it's in the garage and i cannot verify.
Could be 1 1/2"
I paddle a Malibu Mini-X.
