TOPIC: Take a Look at Freedom Hawk 12
#343
Take a Look at Freedom Hawk 12 1 Month, 2 Weeks ago
If you are new to kayak fishing and a bit apprehensive or you're an old pro, you should take a look at the new Freedom 12 by Freedom Hawk Kayaks. If your a bit nervous about stability or just appreciate it, the Freedom 12 is the most stable kayak fishing platform on the market today. We the patented outriggers that deploy with the pull of a handle, you are ready to stand up and sight fish. Fly fishermen will love this. I was not going to carry a kayak manufacturer for the Kayak Fishing ClassicS because the fishermen all told me that they did not want to give up their kayak even if they win a new one. Why is that? Well, the fishermen put a great deal of thought into making their fishing yak just right and don't want to go through all of that again. I conducted a poll and asked what kayak would make you sell your current yak if you one a new one. The answer was unamimous. The Freedom Hawk Kayaks Freedom 12. That's powerful and that is why Freedom Hawk Kayaks is now the only Kayak Sposor to the Kayak Fishing ClassicS. I really don't think you can go wrong with a purchase of the Freedom 12. It's light weight, the outriggers come off for storage, it is very well made and sells complete for under $1,000. Take a look at the Freedom Hawk 12 on our website at

I got a chance to use one for the first time yesterday and I liked it a lot. I've got a review that'll be in the next issue of KFM.

I have 1 of each...both have their strong points...I am using the 14ft to replace my canoe for attacking...the 12ft will have its glory coming as well...I am going to get all the biggest fish from them this year...the 12ft model I tend to use backwards as in pushpoling with outriggers in front for longer gliding...on the 14ft I deploy maybe 30% is all to keep things fast since I rarely sit...I am also going to use them for DIY flats fishing for fisherman wanting bones/permit etc

They are so nice for the fishing you have there. I'm sorry we didn't hook up but the weather was brutal in January in Florida so I stuck to warm water discharges. Hopefully the next time I'm down the weather will be much nicer.

How's the fishing lately?

I really like the stand and fish option of this kayak.
How well does it perform? My favorite fishing spot is
approx 2 miles from my launch point through an inlet
and open ocean.

I havent really had the chance to give it 100% but I did test it in Flaming "O"...it was 25-35mph wind and I did ok considering it was my 1st kayaking experience...I then used it one day on the flats and it proved to be stable but slow....luckily slow was what I needed that day because of winds...it drifts the same speed no matter how hard the wind but it also wont glide when deployed...this is something that can either be good or bad depending on your needs...I will use it for what it is and use for quick attacking near the launch and slow stable platform for 360 casting to permit...I will be tuning myself to it more as the weather allows me to go out...I think it is better to pushpole it backwards while deployed..I use a 15ft TFO pushpole to reach properly around the outriggers....still getting dialed in to attack fully with 2 or 3 rods...will be making some sort of dually stripping platform so I can keep 2 rods stripped and ready...also I havent been using the stand up bar because it slows me down from quick fire casting...still havent used a anchor either but considering a stalk out pole both whatever works best...I dont want anything in my way and less is more...
fishing is extremely slow at best but there are some around at proper times...still no bones, permit or tarpon....the reds are the game right now but I am the only one to target them...everybody else goes for trout...

I think I'm going to demo one this fall. I'm not
allowed to use my arm/shoulder until then. Thank
god for my pedal power this year. Thank you again

The fishing is really turning on up here on the Nature Coast. We had a couple of days of heavy rain but it's nice now and I am heading out. I've been really too busy witht he ClassicS next tournament coming up March 26 27 so today is a play day.
