About Me
My name is Jon. I live in Florida. I have been fishing here for about 12 years now. My wife and I just recently bought kayaks and we are HOOKED!!! We had a 1977 P.O.S. boat for a few months but that turned out to be nothing but a headache. We have been on 5 trips now and just cant get enough. I thought I was going to miss hauling butt down the intercostal with the 2 stroke screaming, however, the sound of the birds flapping there wings, fish jumping, manatte snorting, and oysters spitting is far better!! We thought we would be missing a lot not being able to cover as much water with each trip, turns out we were just flying by all that the river and ocean has to show us!! I have caught a few fish so far, nothing great. A couple trout, few small reds, and a flounder or two. Its a little diffrent fishing from a yak than wading or off the banks, but I'm sure I'll get the hang of it... |

Round Island proves itself again.
We began our paddle heading southeast. I usually head north so this should be a nice treat. I started out throwing a top water plug hoping to stir up some action. No such luck. After a quick lunch break on an island we were off again.
Time to change it up! How about a DOA CAL...... Nothing! So we stopped at this tiny little island for a snack and a cold beer. Can you get a KUI?? Hope not! So a little wandering, a little island makeout session and we are heading back.
This is when things start to look a little more promising. The sun is falling, the last of the incoming tide is making its way in. The mullet are everywhere. If there ever was a time to catch a fish this is it! So I pull out my trusty gold spoon and start working the edge of these islands like it was last day I would ever fish! A few lady fish and a small jack later I'm all fired up! I do not to go home empty handed.
As we begin to drift around the last bend of the last island before the launch I see a big drainage pipe sticking out of the mangroves. I fire that spoon right up under that pipe, a perfect cast I must say. I get the lure within five feet of the boat and he hits!! My drag starts singing, water starts thrashing, finally a decent fish! I pull this red out and get him in the boat. He's legal, but barely. Fish tacos tonight babe I shouted while digging for my stringer. The next noise I hear is one of great horror! Flip, flap, splash.... SOB!! He's gone.
Lesson of the day.... Keep your grip on his lip! LOL! I thought it was funny.
