New 2011 Hobie Revolution
I have been using the Hobie Revolution since 2007 and it has always been a popular fishing kayak with myself and others. I pretty much wore that kayak out so it was time for a new one and I am even more impressed with the craft as the have fixed a few of the issues, and I am not sure they were issues more of areas that needed a bit of tweaking. the new up/down rudder system is a breeze that takes very little effort to make work. The new Mirage drive is amazing and now the drive never gets loose or moves. Even little things like the drive pedals always facing you instead of spinning are now addressed. I love it!
One of the all time best fishing kayaks
I know lots has changed over the years and we all get caught up in the New-latest-greatest-thing but this is still one of the best kayaks ever made, not initially made for fishing but adapted to do so. It is a kayak that paddled like a dream and if you found yourself in nasty conditions - this kayak was a knife in the water. I would say not a good match for paddlers over 200lbs but for everybody else it did the job. It sat low in the water and had lots of flare to punch through surf or chop.
I was able to shimmy up front to the hatch and the tankwell was a breeze to access on the water. Not even sure if the kayak is still made but if you can find one used, it is worth it. I know some people didnt like the that you the butt area was wet, but hey - its a water sport.
Great 12 footer
I spent a week in Costa Rica fishing off the Redfish 12' and it really is a great kayak, that has enough speed. the stability is awesome likes its big brother the 14' but has a bonus of a nice large front hatch. I was able to stand in it and that seat (canvas) is a dream.
Hobie Outriggers
This a very well thought out system and have used it on my Revolution. I think it can adapt well to non Hobie kayaks. I loe how easy the it stowed away when not in use.
