Perception Sport Pescador 12 - One Year Later

I bought the Pescador 12, one year ago from Academy Sports. The price was $599. After using it for one year, here are some thoughts about it.

This was my first kayak. As a beginner, I wanted a very stable kayak. The PS12 fills that bill. I have never felt like it wanted to tip over with me as long as I don't do anything crazy. I can sit sideways with my legs in the water and fish or eat lunch. I usually put my legs in the water to access my crate in the rear.

I wanted a fairly dry boat. The PS12 is very dry if I use scupper plugs in the 6 scuppers in the cockpit. Without the plugs at my feet, about 1/2" of water stays there at all times. I weigh about 190. The seat stays dry too.

It came with one flush mounted rod holder. I use it to hold my anchor. My rods go in PVC tubes on the crate. I installed an anchor trolly using the attach points already on the boat. The rear trunk is roomy and fits a standard size crate just fine.

There are 3 access points to the interior of the hull. A large hatch on the bow that is large enough for my PVC cart and a good size dry bag. A smaller hatch is on the floor between my knees and a third is on the flat space between the seat and crate. The interior has stayed completely dry for the entire year.

There is no rod holder on this model(newer ones may have one now). There are molded in points on the center "console" for a rod holder and depthfinder, as well as a shallow cup holder. There are adjustable foot rests mounted to plastic rails.

The seat is adequate for several hours of paddling or fishing, but I have added some extra foam for more comfort. The seat back is adjustable for angle via straps on the side.

I fish mostly rivers and the boat maneuvers well in them. It tracks well on lakes too. It will glide a good ways after you stop paddling.

In conclusion, I have enjoyed the Pescador 12. If I had it to do over and only had $600 to spend, I'd buy it again.

I rated it a 4 due to no rod holder and only one flush mount.
