Great for toothy critters as long as they are not too large
I use the Boga primarily for lingcod. It's real easy to snatch the fish unharmed and get a measurement. If the fish is too small then it gets back in the water faster. The Boga Grip will swivel when a fish jerks so that the fish is less likely to be harmed.
The tool is also good for weighing fish up to 30lbs (the model I have) and seems pretty accurate.
Overall the gripper is a solid make but you should probably get a leash or attach it to a float in case you drop it into the water so that it doesn't sink to the bottom. Rinse after each use in the salt water.
The major con is the price but it's a solid tool made in the USA. The Boga may not be a good tool for really large fish, but I am not certain because I have not used it on anything larger than 25lbs. I don't know if it would handle a 60lb fish for example. I suspect it could but that doing so could damage the scale?? Unsure.
I use the Norton Fish Grip too. It's a good tool but is not as solid as the Boga.
