From the Oliso Website: Small but mighty! When the question is how to keep your food items fresh the answer is Frisper Freshkeeper® vacuum sealer. Not your typical sealer, this little guy can keep your opened bottle of white wine fresh for a week (Wine+Olive Oil Freshkeeper® sold separately). Our multi-layered vacuum storage bags, combined with our patented punch-and-seal technology keeps food fresh up to 5 times longer. Stop cutting, reduce waste, and save time and money. Housewares Design Award winner! The FF-600 model is small and compact, perfect for quick vacuum sealing of cheese, avocadoes, meats, and more. Fully automatic operation, dishwasher safe drip tray, and powerful professional vacuum add up to an all-around kitchen hero. This model is not designed for foods with lots of liquid (see our Pro-1000 model for that!) but is perfect for everyday use. It is also compatible with our entire line of accessories including Wine + Olive Oil Freshkeepers, Mason Jar Freshkeepers, and Pantry Bags. With salmon season in full swing and my Foodsaver on the fritz I picked up an Oliso Frisper from Next Adventure in Oregon (they are also available on Amazon and other on-line retailers). To be honest I did get it at the employee price, but for only $39.99, it is great deal for everyone. The kit they have at Next Adventure comes with the Frisper unit, 16 re-sealable quart bags, 10 re-sealable gallon bags and a vacuum hose that I think will work with my Foodsaver marinator. With 26 bags this kit should be able to get most folks through Springer season. Extra bags can be purchased from several on-line retailers. The Frisper bags are very similar to Foodsaver bags except they have a heavy duty zipper closure one end. This allows the bags to be opened and re-used without having to cut an inch or so off the end. Once something is in the bag all you have to do is seal the zipper closure and put a section of the bag into the machine. The Frisper works by puncturing a small hole in the bag which it uses to remove the air. After the air is removed it seals the area around the hole. There are pre labeled spots to line up with the hole puncher but there is space to seal between the labels. Another feature of the Frisper that I like is that it is small. You can see it is less than 1/3rd the size of my Foodsaver. Being so small I can see myself bringing in on extended fishing/camping trips to vacuum seal fish before packing them in my cooler. Overall I was really impressed with the Oliso Frisper. The unit even includes a removable drip tray to catch excess liquid so it should work with steak and other meat. My only complaint is that bags are a bit too small to fit a whole salmon fillet, but I very rarely freeze a whole fillet. The Frisper is not going to replace my Foodsaver for everything but for quickly vacuum sealing fillets it worked perfectly. This unit is great for anyone looking for an inexpensive way to vacuum seal food, or someone wanting a small unit to have in the field.
