Kayak Fishing ClassicS Series Standings
By Katrinka Swenson, ClassicS staff journalist
The Kayak Fishing ClassicS National Tournament Series is heating up. As we near the half way point in the series season, the best anglers are starting to stand out.
Derick Burgos secured the lead position in the Series Standings by placing second in the fly fishing division and second in the light tackle division in the Tenacious Trout Classic last month. With several tournaments to go the race is very close. Derick is known for his consistency and workman like approach to the ClassicS. Derick is also owner/operator of PhatFish Kayak Fishing Charters in Tampa, Florida.
Toni Lai secured Second Place in the Series Standings when he slammed the TenAcious Trout Classic by winning First Place in the fly fishing division and First Place in the light tackle division. Tony moved way up in the Series Standings to control Second Place and is only 30 Series Points behind the leader. Tony is not a kayak fishing guide but you can tell that he puts in the time on the water.
Others tumbled however Jason Stock of JM Snooky has command of third place and is looking to make his move. There are only very few points separating the top three Series Leaders with a two huge events on the upcoming schedule for the ClassicS.
April 23 & 24 is the Molly GoodHeads Excellent Adventure Classic which is a three species slam tournament. There are huge points on the table so the standings should get even more interesting.
SERIES STANDINGS - ClassicS Series as of 04/24/10 Tony Lai Takes Command of Series
Tony Lai has taken the lead position in the Series Standings of the Kayak Fishing ClassicS on Saturday by placing Third in the Fly Fishing Division and First in the Light Takcle Division. There were enough points on the table in this event and Tony took advantage of them.
Congratulations Tony
The Next ClassicS Event will be the Homosassa Hazard, Extreme Tarpon Classic and it too will have many points available. The competion has really heated up in the Kayak Fishing Classics Series and the competition is very close. There is a 3-way tie for places 5 thru 7 in the series standings. With a number of tournaments to go, the Series has become very exciting and the race is very close.
Another newcomer below, Paul Weckbacher did very well in his first ClassicS Event. We expect big things from PJ who managed to earn 4th place in the Classic and has earned his way into a 3-way tie for 5th in the Series Standings. Great job PJ.
Congratulations PJ and welcome to the ClassicS.
Next up is the Homosassa Hazard, Extreme Tarpon Classic on May 21 & 22.
This will be a unique fishing format which will utilize partners in the Classic. Again, there is a lot at stake for all of the contestants. It would not be surprising if someone came up to the front from the back of the pack with all of the points that are available.
“It’s heating up for sure and that’s how I like it” stated Capt. Pat Horrigan of the Kayak Fishing ClassicS. The ClassicS is an open 10 tournament national series followed by an invitational national championship. The series is conducted along the Coastal Gulf States.
