BRENDAN BAYARD WINS IFA KAYAK TOUR EVENT AT COCODRIE, LA.

Cocodrie, La. (April 27, 2010) - Brendan Bayard, of Baton Rouge, La., caught a redfish and speckled sea trout totaling 42 inches in length to secure a win in the IFA Kayak Tour Presented by Hobie Fishing at Cocodrie on April 25. The event, open to non-motorized kayaks only, was the fifth regular-season event overall and first in the Louisiana Division for the first-year fishing tour.
Bayard's 23-inch redfish tied with that of seventh-place finisher's Benton Parrott, while his 19-inch sea trout was the largest of the catch-photograph-release competition. The total length of Bayard's two fish gave him a .5-inch advantage over second-place finisher, Todd Hart, winning him a Hobie Mirage Pro-Angler Kayak valued at $2,399.
Fishing with a Texas Tackle Factory Killer Flats Minnow, Bayard boated 17 fish on the day, while traveling over 1.5 hours away, in order to fish cleaner water.
"Thanks to Hobie for putting out a great product," said Bayard. "I can keep the line in the water all day since there is no paddling. Also want to thank Texas Tackle Factory for the winning bait."
Todd Hart, of Katy, Texas, measured a 24.25-inch redfish and a 17.25-inch speckled seas trout for a total length measurement of 41.5 inches on his way to a second-place finish and a new Hobie Mirage Outback kayak, valued at $1,749. Hart used Berkley Gulp! Shrimp and other soft plastics only a quarter mile from the lodge to wrap up the number two slot. Third-place finisher, Stephen Robert, of Houma, La., boated a nice 26.50-inch redfish and 14-inch speckled seas trout totaled 40.5 inches, winning the angler a Hobie Quest kayak, valued at $949.
With the largest redfish of the competition, Blake Gill, of Masseys Sports Center, Inc., won $200. First-place finisher Bayard also took him $200 in prize money for the largest sea trout, thanks to his 19-inch catch.
"This was a great event and we appreciate all the anglers hanging in there with us through the horrible weather," said Jim Armstrong, IFA owner. "We would also like to thank the Hobie dealership, Massey's Sports Center, for their support during this event and the upcoming IFA Kayak Fishing Tour Louisiana events."
