Report: The water level in Cape Coral Freshwater Canals has stabilized. But we have been faced with back to back cold fronts at times. These conditions have put the fish in sluggish more finicky moods. Bass fish catches in the high numbers that were seen last month now fallen, but the quality of the fish has been impressive. Most of the fish were noted close to the bottom as they traditionally are here in Florida when the weather gets cold. Baits and techniques that produced the best results were Jigs and Soft Plastics. We caught the most impressive bass on Carolina Rigs. Any technique used must be presented slowly as water temps and cold fronts will put these fish down and sluggish in regards to eating. If you can find a few days with a warm trend look for the bass to move up shallow for water that will warm the fastest. The saltwater in the Cape Coral, Matlache and Pine island area is doing great! Redfish and Snook bite is wonderful this time of year for bigger fish inshore. Kayaking the back country and the flats this month has allowed us to get into great numbers and quality of Trout, Snook and Reds. The bigger fish have made their way in and the Trout have been monsters. The Trout will respond well to fast twitch retrieves with Jig heads in 1/8th and 1/16th weights. Rig these with your favorite soft plastics and start there. We had great luck with Gary Yamamoto Swim baits rigged on our Lamiglas Kayak Series rods. The Lamiglas rods have the back bone and weight that allows you to cast and fight these bruisers all day long. For throwing hard baits such as Mirro Lures or Skitter Walkers we have found the Lamiglas XPC 683 to fit the bill perfectly. We just recently have found excellent Kayak Fishing Systems from Aqua Skinz. Aqua Skinz also makes a hat called the Aqua Skinz Skull Cap that is unbelievably comfortable in cooler weather kayaking, kayak fishing, or just every day. More on the Aqua Skinz products to follow, they can be found at www.Aquaskinz.com . And for the rods www.lamiglas.com Please take the time to stop by and see our new site as we now offer Gift Certificates for our Trips, Signature kayak Seats, Motor kits, Classes or Club Membership programs. Our charters have seen some great quality fish lately so book now and have the trip of your lifetime. www.kayak-charters.com ! |
