Kayak Fishing Magazine: Angler of the Month - Cory "Ruthless" Routh

Cory Routh, nationally recognized as "Ruthless" has been a Kayak Angler for over 10 years. He has fished everywhere from New Jersey to Oahu, Hawaii. Ruthless has been a motivating force in the development of kayak angling, and still continues to contribute to the sport through his writing and seminars. Ruthless is the founder of the Tidewater Kayak Anglers Association, Eastern Virginia's largest kayak fishing organization. He also sits on the advisory board for the Kayak Anglers Society of America (KASA).

Cory has a BS in Marine Biology and worked with the Fisheries Management Division of the Virginia Marine Resources Commission. During his tenure there he helped develop the Virginia Saltwater Recreational Fishing Development Program. His contributions to that program resulted in him receiving the VMRC's Distinguished Service Award. Cory currently works as a water quality specialist with the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality. Cory is part of a team of specialist charged with monitoring the water quality of the tributaries of the Chesapeake Bay.

When not monitoring water quality, Cory guides salt and fresh water kayak fishing trips in the Tidewater area of Virginia. His knowledge of fish biology makes him an excellent guide as well a formidable competition angler. Cory is truly a dynamic angler, from farm ponds to open ocean, "Ruthless" has a natural ability for finding and catching fish. He is proficient with flyfishing techniques, as well as light tackle. His preferred species are Striped Bass, Red Drum, Spotted Trout, and Flounder.
