The Georgia Kayak Fishing Club was formed two years ago and now has 440 online members. Our membership stretches to all corners of the state. Club members enjoy picnics, camping trips and get
togethers on the water. We fish the big lakes, the rambling rivers and the inshore saltwater creeks. And, with the help of club sponsor, Brent Troncalli, owner of The Outside World in Dawsonville, GA, six members of GKF were chosen to the Ocean Kayak Fishing Team for Georgia. “Due to recent recognition from industry shows and several newspaper articles, membership in GKF has grown at a rapid pace”, says club president Tony Narcisse. “All the attention we have been getting has been very positive. We hope to continue our growth by spreading the word about the thrill of kayak fishing”.
The club will be hosting the 1st Annual Georgia Kayak Fishing Tournament Trail in 2008. The three tournament series is believed to be the first of its kind anywhere. The first tournament will be at Lake Blackshear, in Cordele, on April 19th where the target will be Largemouth, Spots and Shoal Bass. The second tournament will be at Lake Lanier, in Cumming, where we will be going after Stripers and Spots. The third leg of the tournament will be in the salt at Savannah on October 25th. There, kayak anglers will be targeting the “slam”… Flounder, Sea Trout and Redfish. The tournament trail is being sponsored by some of the big names in the fishing and paddle sports industries. To date, sponsors include Ocean Kayak, Carlisle Paddles, Humminbird, Extrasport, Scotty Rod Holders, Daiichi Hooks, Blakemore Lures, NetBait, Big Hammer Lures, Captain Dick Enterprises, Habervision Sunglasses, Ocean Potion Sunscreen, Marshall Madruga Art and Apparel Collection, Bass Pro Shops, Wheeleez, Angler’s Yak Shack, Kayak Angler Magazine, Seairsports Kayak Seats, Shallow Water Angler Magazine, Georgia’s Outdoor Adventures, Berkley, Bite-Rite, and Polar Bear Coolers. The first 50 paid contestants, at each tournament, will receive a “Captain’s Yak Bag” containing products from some of our sponsors. The merchandise included in these bags is worth much more than the entry fee. We will be awarding six fishing kayaks during the series, plus a Grand prize of a fully rigged Ocean Kayak Big Game. The Big Game will be awarded to the 2008 Georgia Kayak Fishing Champion.
