I had just learned about the mirage inflatable seat pad and thought it was a great idea. Leave it to Hobie again to come up with another great solution. So I got a hold of one to test it out. I have been using an inflatable pad for years and my favorite is similarly designed except it was missing one important feature. It wasn’t attached to the seat. It did come with a Velcro kit but sometimes the wind can still blow it off. The Hobie pad attaches to the screws in the plug so it becomes part of the seat. It’s very easy to attach and only requires a Phillips head screwdriver. The entire process took a minute or two. I wasn’t sure whether to leave the original seat bottom attached or not and I decided to try it with both. My only concern was the screws would have less bite because of the two layers of material (the original seat bottom and the I Seat) might not have enough grip in the pegs. However after using it on the water the other day it was fine. The next time out I removed the original seat bottom and it worked as well if not better. I'm going to leave it this way. Both days it was windy and it was great not having to worry about my pad taking flight. All I can say is if you’re a Hobie mirage kayak owner then you’re going to want to have one of these pads. Your tush is going to love you for it and you'll never have to chase a seat pad across a parking lot again.
